This lecture by Gordon Tullock was first written for a seminar at Virginia Polytechnic Institute sometime during the early 1970s, and it remained unpublished until it was included in a 1984 book edited by David Colander. Tullock engagingly entreats economists to assist the everyman in understanding political economy and judging policy reform. He makes the case that such effort pays off professionally, that being virtuous is not the only own reward for virtue. The economist can do well by doing good.
