Abstract

This article consists of passages from Isaiah Berlin’s book Karl Marx, 5th edition, edited by Henry Hardy (Princeton University Press, 2013), republished by permission of the Trustees of the Isaiah Berlin Literary Trust. The first edition of Karl Marx appeared in 1939. The selection perhaps indicates why Marx, rather than any other thinker, was rather destined to become a symbol for sentiments we associate with leftism and radicalism.
