In this paper I reflect upon my life as a Christian and how it has connected to my work as an academic economist. I examine how my parents, teachers, colleagues, mentors, collaborators, and friends have influenced my path thus far. I outline five roles that may potentially be played by economists of faith in influencing the activity of economists. In particular I focus upon the significant yet daunting task of communicating sound economics to faith-based audiences who may not be naturally inclined to accept conventional economic wisdom. I suggest that economics can be viewed in terms of our good stewardship of God’s realm. I conclude by suggesting that economics should not conflate utility, happiness, and joy.
