Abstract
Abstract: In 2023, Urban Studies published our article titled “Land-Use Reforms and Housing Costs: Does Allowing for Increased Density Lead to Greater Affordability?” Here we reply to a critique of that article by four authors associated with the American Enterprise Institute, Tobias Peter, Joseph Tracy, Edward Pinto, and and Alanna Baker (2026). Our response clarifies key methodological misunderstandings, situates the differing findings within their respective research designs, and highlights the importance of continued efforts to develop scalable, transparent methods for measuring the impacts of land-use reforms on housing supply.
