Abstract
Jason Sorens (2025) argues that three recent papers (Howard and Liebersohn, 2021; Gyourko and McCulloch, 2024; Harris and Lin, 2024) could be read as arguing against the benefits of deregulating housing supply. We clarify that our paper (Howard and Liebersohn 2021) should not be interpreted as anti-deregulation, respond briefly to Sorens’ critiques, and emphasize agreement on the importance of estimating the population elasticity to local rents.
