Econ Journal Watch brings incisive criticism to major economic research. However, its contributions go beyond that. First, due to the Internet medium, the universe of scholars is watching the economic criticism, which makes it difficult to ignore. Econ Journal Watch brings economists into the debate. Second, Econ Journal Watch develops its own investigations of professional practice and institutions, exploring the purpose and character of professional economics, as well as developing the character represented by Smith, Hayek, Coase, Buchanan, and similar economists. No other scholarly economics journal does so much in these ways.
