John Constable

John Constable is Davis Family Professor of Energy, Economics and Civilization, and Director of the Future of Energy Institute at the University of Austin, Texas (UATX). He has taught at Kyoto University in Japan, and at Cambridge, where he was Senior Research Fellow at Magdalene College, having previously taken his undergraduate and doctoral degrees in that university. Professor Constable is known for his view that the entropy of fuels is of critical concern in the creation, augmentation and maintenance of those improbable states of the world that we call wealth. Recent publications include Europe’s Green Experiment: A Costly Failure in Unilateral Climate Policy (2022), and Powering Freedom: The Thermodynamic Roots of Modernity (2025).
