Mark Tauger grew up in Southern California. He earned a BA and MA in historical musicology at UCLA, then accepted a major fellowship there to do history, focusing on the history of agricultural development in the USSR. After he finished his Ph.D. on collective farms, he became a professor at West Virginia University, and a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. He has written and published extensively on famines, agriculture, and agricultural history. His email address is mtauger@​
