Michael J. Boskin

Michael J. Boskin is the Tully M. Friedman Professor of Economics and Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University. He is also Research Associate, National Bureau of Economic Research. He served as Chairman of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 1989 to 1993. He also helped design President Reagan’s tax-rate reductions, index­ing, accelerated depreciation, and IRAs and 401(k)s. He later chaired the blue-ribbon Commission on the Consumer Price Index, whose report has transformed the way government statistical agencies around the world measure inflation, GDP, and productivity. He authored three chapters in Blueprint for America, published by Hoover in 2016. His current research focuses on G-7 economic growth, the political economy of social security reform, and the response of taxes and transfers to distributional shocks.
